Board Roles

Board Structure

The Board consists of Elected Board Members and Appointed Board Members in accordance with the NZDBA Constitution.
NZDBA Board positions are structured into defined governance portfolios.

Individuals are elected or appointed into specific Board positions in accordance with the Constitution and any applicable Appointment Panel processes.
Each Board position has an approved Position Description that outlines:

• Purpose of the role.
• Governance responsibilities.
• Delegated authority.
• Reporting expectations.
• Key relationships.
• Governance boundaries.

While individual Board Members hold responsibility for their assigned portfolio, all Board Members retain collective responsibility for the governance of NZDBA.

Board Portfolio Structure

To support effective governance of NZDBA, Board positions are grouped into three governance domains.

Core Governance

These roles provide oversight of NZDBA's governance framework, compliance obligations, financial stewardship, and organisational risk.

2. Financial Stewardship & Assurance Lead
3. Policy & Risk Lead

Federation Management

These roles support the relationship between NZDBA, its members, regions, partners, and wider stakeholders, and help ensure the long-term sustainability of the organisation.

1. Stakeholder & External Relationships Lead
2. RSO & Member Engagement Lead
3. Funding & Sustainability Lead

Sport Delivery System

These roles provide governance oversight of the systems required to deliver and develop dragon boating in New Zealand.

1. Events Governance Lead
2. Performance Lead
3. Strategic Development – Officials Lead
4. Strategic Development – Youth Lead

Detailed responsibilities for each Board position are contained within the relevant Position Description approved by the Board.

The Strategic Development portfolios are intended to address priority capability areas identified by the Board and may be reviewed and reassigned as strategic priorities change.
