The National Dragon Boat Championships will be at Lake Hood in Ashburton on 27th and 28th March 2010. Lake Hood is about one hour south of Christchurch, and is a privately run lake with amenities and an on-site restaurant and bar. This event is open to dragonboat crews who are financial members of the NZDBA. The 2009 - 2010 season fees are:
- Individuals $75 + gst
- School Teams $25 + gst
- Adult Teams $150 + gst
Teams that are financial members of NZDBA will be sent a letter of affiliation - this is often required by the funding bodies in NZ.

NZDBA is a full member of the International Dragon Boat Federation (IDBF), which is recognised by the General Assembly of International Sports Federation (GAISF) as the international governing body for the sport of dragon boating.
NZDBA is a member of the New Zealand Canoe Federation, which is recognised as an 'NSO' by SPARC.
