NZDBA recently signed an agreement as the sole agent in New Zealand with Merlin Gear Australia, a sudsidiary of Talon Equipment. NZDBA will sell the Merlin range of Carbon Fibre dragonboat paddles including the Excalibur paddle a Hi-Tech paddle with a computer chip on Special order. The Excalibur was demonstrated at the Wellington Festival and the National Championships and will be of interest to Coaches, Managers and the serious paddler.

IDBF Spec paddles

As a part of the move to IDBF Dragon Boat racing standards, NZDBA promotes the use of International Spec 202a paddles (T-Bar or palm grip) for racing at all sanctioned events in NZ. This will bring NZ teams up to the standards that are now a part of paddling Internationally.

Crews competing in the National Dragon Boat Championships in March 2010 must use 202a Spec paddles (Carbon Fibre or Wood). A vast number of paddles are available on the International market, however teams who are unfamiliar with the types of paddles available should contact the NZDBA. As you can see above, NZDBA are actively pursuing competitive prices for paddles from a variety of suppliers.

Remember, check that:

• The Paddles is IDBF Spec AND
  
• The Manufacturers is licensed by IDBF (under IDBF paddle makers licensing scheme).
